Affordable satellite internet arrives in South Sudan through NCA and Starlink partnership, promising improved connectivity and growth.
In a groundbreaking move set to revolutionize South Sudan’s digital landscape, the National Communications Authority (NCA) has announced a pivotal partnership with Starlink, Elon Musk‘s global satellite internet provider.
This collaboration aims to introduce affordable and accessible internet services nationwide, aligning with the NCA’s mandate to regulate telecommunications and ICT sectors and ensure equitable access to communication services for all South Sudanese citizens.
The NCA, established by the National Communication Act of 2012, has been in discussions with Starlink to bring its advanced satellite internet services to South Sudan. This initiative is expected to significantly improve internet accessibility, which is crucial for socio-economic development.
Starlink has been granted a provisional license to operate within South Sudan. Customers will need to register and make payments in South Sudanese pounds, equivalent to US dollar prices set with Starlink.
This pricing structure ensures both transparency and affordability for consumers.

In compliance with the National Communication Act and the National Communications Tariffs Regulations of 2016, Starlink’s tariff proposals have been officially approved by the NCA. These tariffs, excluding applicable taxes and statutory fees, are now available to the public.
Additionally, Starlink will select local distributors to manage the distribution of its services and equipment, ensuring compliance with national regulations.
The NCA has advised individuals and entities to avoid importing Starlink or other telecommunication equipment through unauthorized distributors, as this would violate sections 97 and 98 of the National Communication Act of 2012.
This partnership represents a significant step towards enhancing digital connectivity in South Sudan. Improved internet access is expected to bridge the digital divide, fostering economic growth and development across the nation.
The partnership between NCA and Starlink is a pivotal move in South Sudan’s telecommunications landscape. As digital connectivity becomes increasingly vital for economic and social progress, the introduction of affordable satellite internet services can catalyze development.
This initiative aligns with global trends of leveraging satellite technology to overcome connectivity challenges in underserved regions.
