The company will receive an extension to meet its obligation of having 50% of its planned 3,236-satellite constellation in orbit, a milestone originally set for July 30, 2026.

While Amazon Leo will avoid immediate penalties for missing the interim deployment target, the FCC’s decision comes with a significant caveat: the company will temporarily lose its priority status for spectrum licensing for any satellites not deployed by the original deadline. This means that newly launched satellites after July 30, 2026, will be reassigned to a later priority tier, potentially delaying their operational capacity and access to crucial orbital slots and frequency blocks.
